Amagasaki Castle

A post-medieval castle newly built by Toda Ujikane, who became lord of the territory in 1617. Construction proceeded with the support of the Tokugawa Shogunate, and a four-storied Tenshu (castle keep) towered in the Honmaru (main compound). It was a flatland castle planned by redesigning the town of Amagasaki, which had prospered from the Middle Ages, but it was fully dismantled after the abolition of castles in the Meiji period (1868-1912), and hardly trace remains except for the appearance of some buildings in the Teramachi (temple district) that evoke the Edo period (1603-1868).
