A Brief Introduction to Akashi Senior High School

    Akashi Senior High school, founded in 1923, is full-time public senior high school in Hyogo Prefecture. There are 978 students enrolled, about 60 teachers, and about 20 staffs in 2020. The school not only offers a standard curriculum, but also a math and science course, as well as an art course, which is the only specialty art program in the prefecture. There have been more than 32,700 graduates from the school over the years, and some famous alumni are Mikitani Hiroshi (founder of Rakuten) and Akao Tamao (newscaster).

    The school is located in Akashi City, just a short bus ride from the train station. It features classrooms with newly-installed projectors, as well as air conditioning. There is also a gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria, and separate buildings where art classes in painting, sculpture, ceramics, etc. are conducted.

    There are a total of 38 clubs (20 sports, 18 cultural). The Men’s Softball Club, Kendo Clubs, and Handball Clubs are particularly strong, having placed high in competition rankings at the local and prefectural levels. The Karuta and Broadcasting Clubs have also recently participated in local events and won various prizes.

    Self-reliance is one of the core beliefs of this school, and its motto is “autonomy, cooperation, creativity”. The goal of Akashi Senior High School is to foster creativity and independence within students so that they can go on to live fulfilling and successful lives after graduation.
