10　関係副詞(where と when)

　関係副詞は関係代名詞とよく似ている。先行詞が場所を表す名詞の場合には where を、時を表す場合には when を用いる。訳す場合には where や when は訳さず、その後ろの部分(次の例文ではかっこで囲んだ部分)が前の先行詞にかかるように訳せばよい。

(1) I remember the place (where I first met you).
私はあなたに初めて会った場所を覚えている。
(2) This is the point (where you are mistaken).
ここが君の間違っている点だ。
(3) Let me know the time (when you will arrive at Kobe Station).
あなたが神戸駅につく時間を私に教えてください。
(4) Monday is the day (when some people feel blue).
月曜日は人によっては憂うつな日だ。

上の4つの文は次に示す2つの文を１つにしたものである。2番目の文の下線部が関係副詞に置き換えられている点に注意すること。
(1’) I remember the place. + I first met you in the place.
(2’) This is the point. + You are mistaken here.
(3’) Let me know the time. + You will arrive at Kobe Station then.
(4’) Monday is the day. + Some people feel blue then.
