１　be動詞の過去形

　be動詞の過去形は、is とam がwas に、are がwere に変化します。次の表で確認しておきましょう。

主語	現在形	過去形
I　（私）	am	was
you　（あなた）	are	were
三人称単数 he　（彼） she　（彼女） it　（それ）	is	was
we （私たち）	are	were
you　（あなたがた）	are	were
３人称複数 they（彼ら、彼女ら、それら）	are	were

　過去形であっても、be動詞には変わりないので、疑問文と否定文の作り方は、現在形と同じです。

過去形の疑問文（be動詞を主語の前に置く）

You were a student.　→ Were you a student?
He was a student.　 → Was he a student?
They were students.　 → Were they students?
The apples were big.　 →　Were the apples big?

過去形の否定文（be動詞のすぐ後に not を入れる）

I was a student.　 → I was not a student.
She was a student.　 → She was not a student.
They were students.　 → They were not students.
The apples were big.　 → The apples were not big.
