Nanajuichiban Shokunin Utaawase (Poetry Competition among People of Various Occupations in 71 Rounds)

The original is presumed to have been produced in the latter part of the Muromachi Period, with Tosa Mitsunobu in charge of the painting, Sanetaka Sanjonishi in charge of the foreword, and Asukai Masayasu in charge of one of the poets of the waka Japanese poem. Production of “Shokunin Utaawase” started from the latter part of the Kamakura Period, and features a combination of people of various occupations, with people paired up in a poetic context. A total of 142 types of occupations are presented, with 34 of them being represented by women.
