In 1998, our prefectural Board of Education asked junior high schools in Hyogo Prefecture to begin a "Career Week" program through which students would experience jobs in their community for one week. Our school pioneered this idea by being one of the first schools to start such a program. After hearing that Naka-cho Junior High would serve as a model school for this program, our students looked toward Career Week with anticipation and nervousness. They took this program very seriously and were satisfied with their efforts at the end of the week. The best way to learn is through experience. It goes without saying that it's important to do things such as read books and to discuss ideas during class. However, when we finish school and start working, we are taught by many different people and learn through our experiences. We realize that life itself is a classroom. During Career Week, this is one lesson that our students learned and, hopefully, will never forget. Club sports practice was canceled during this week, so that the students could concentrate on this activity. The students' parents also participated in this week by observing the students and serving as Career Week volunteers. Fortunately, even the students who are often absent from school participated in this week enthusiastically. We would like to sincerely thank the people in the town and the parents for their support and cooperation. |
