Outside the Classroom:
Japanese Classical Entertainment
Saturday, September 18
Our students get a private performance
to get acquainted with Rakugo

This year, professional entertainers came
to Naka-cho to do live musical, dramatic,
and classical Japanese performances for our
students. These artists rotate to different
schools every year. The students loved their
visit and the influence of this experience
can be seen in the Cultural Festival this
year, which consisted of a play, a magic
show, dances, singing, and a comedy act.
This year, Rakugo was the Japanese classical
entertainment. The entertainers planned different
skits so that the students could understand
the performances. The photo at the top of
the page shows two student volunteers who
are receiving a brief lesson in Rakugo performance.
We would like to extend a warm thank you
to the performers.

A Student's Thoughts
Since I had never seen Rakugo before, I thought
that it would be boring. It turned out to
be so funny that I was doubled over laughing.
I was really impressed that the performers
could talk so much. I want to go to another
rakugo performance again.
I liked Rakugo even before this performance,
so I had a lot of fun.
I wanted to hear more. I hope they come
again next year.
"I've seen that face before on TV...,"
I thought afterward. My perspective on Rakugo
has changed. It's a lot of fun. Chanko-san
is awesome!
