§ Contribution to the publication

February, 2001
Shigeki KINUGASA, Maiko High School Principal.

6 years have passed since the serious hit of the Hanshin-Awaji earthquake. Although this earthquake robbed many people of their lives and assets, it taught us many useful lessons about how precious our lives are and how nice it is to help one another at the same time.

Now we are preparing for the first challenge in Japan of the opening of the " Environmental Disaster Prevention Course" for the 2002 academic year. It is also an honor to open the seminars "1.17 Keep the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in Our Memories -Our mission for the 21st century-" at Maiko High School.

In the words of Torahiko Terada, Japanese literati, "Natural disasters may come when we forget about them". We might forget the lessons we learned from the earthquake as time passes, thus we planned these open seminars to have opportunities to consider the earthquake in multilateral ways for the younger generations who will carry our future and responsibilities.

§ Message from Maiko HS Teachers

In the cooking event with parents and students, I found myself absorbed in cooking together. I found that I was beginning to forget about the earthquake. For keeping the earthquake in mind, I think it is important to take over and continue these cooking activities.
