Learning from what we lost in the earthquake
Mr. Masumi ISHIKAWA, Teacher at a School for the blind.
One Swiss psychiatrist says that those who are diagnosed with cancer or who become disabled feel a series of different emotions as follows:
Due to the earthquake, a lot of people lost their houses, jobs, parents and children. On the other hand, disabled people have already lost some part of their body or their ability to function. In other words, they have lost more things that were unrelated to the earthquake. Being disabled, some people live with tears for months and others might think of killing themselves. Finally to accept the facts, they need such a long a time and many encounters with companions who suffer the same kind of problems. It was unquestionable that after the earthquake, disabled people were in much more serious troubles than the sound people were.
