Understanding each other through music
Mr. Shibun IN, Foreign Student from Taiwan, Ryutu Science Univ.
Ms. Kourei LI, Soprano Singer and Judicial Interpreter.
Mr. In and Ms. Li are involved in volunteer work and charity activities for cheering up the refugees of not only Kobe but also Tottori, Hokkaido and Taiwan; these were all hit by disasters such as earthquakes and volcano eruptions. Through their activities, they both felt it essential to provide mental care for old people and children, not to mention, providing material aids. The language of communication is sometimes important but the interaction between hearts to understand each other is much more important.
In Ms. Li's case, after being worried she chose singing as what she could do for suffering refugees. She believes that traditional and warmhearted songs can cure the suffering people. She hopes for youngsters to study foreign languages harder to broaden their horizons, and she advises them to begin with anything they can do now before they become worried about others.
-Student's impressions-
I thought one of the most important things was to care for the hurt minds of the victims. When I go to university, I also want to do volunteer work and help people in trouble.
It is true that food and money are essential for us but the most important thing for human beings is that we can communicate with our hearts, and we should not forget that.
