On January 17th 1995, a serious earthquake hit the Hanshin-Awaji area. The sadness and hardships suffered were carved into people's minds deeply, and still now we can see the damage everywhere. Apparently, there seems to be recovery but in fact many people's mental pain has not been cured yet, and the living standards in disaster areas are under the before-earthquake ones.

With this earthquake, many volunteer activities were initiated. But except for the Hanshin-Awaji area, it is true that these activities are now in decrease. And there are some children who do not have disaster experience here.

We think it is a great loss for us to forget the disaster experiences and lose the precious experiences of volunteer work. We want to tell young people about the earthquake and want them to learn some lessons from it. This series of lectures called "Keep the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in Our Memories" was carried out according to those wishes.

Through these lectures, we learned a lot of things and examined this earthquake from various viewpoints. Reading students' impressions, we can feel how the story of the lecturers moved students' souls. We are going to keep these memorial events at Maiko high school and try to send out messages about the Hanshin-Awaji earthquake from now on. And we hope we can take on the making of networks of disaster prevention that will connect places affected by disasters all over the world.
